North Water System Renewal Project

[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]UPDATE!  Denver Water (DW) is upgrading and modernizing the northern portion of our water system. DW is building a new water treatment plant, installing a new pipeline and redeveloping our Moffat Treatment Plant site. When finished, the system will be more resilient and adaptable to changing demands for water now and into the future.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Why it’s Important

Denver Water’s North System was constructed in the 1930s, when the surrounding area was mostly farmland. Now, 80 years later, the North System is reaching the end of its lifespan. The North System’s pipelines and valves need to be replaced. The new treatment plant will feature updated technology, and the existing Moffat Treatment Plant will be re-purposed into a distribution site.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_single_image image="2406" img_size="full" alignment="center" onclick="img_link_large" img_link_target="_blank"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/4"][vc_column_text]

Q & As From Denver Water's Meeting with The Trails HOA Board - July 2017

[/vc_column_text][vc_toggle title="Will the other pipeline (conduit 22) be out of service while we’re doing the construction to remove the old conduit 16 and replace it with the new Northwater pipeline? "]Conduit 22 will remain in service during the entire construction of the new Northwater pipeline. With the old conduit 16 shutdown, conduit 22 is the only way to serve water from Ralston to be treated at the Moffat Treatment Plant while the Northwater Treatment plant at Ralston is also being constructed. Conduit 22 will eventually be abandoned in place, but this will occur several years down the road (after the Northwater pipeline is up, tested, and running smoothly – likely around 2023 to 2025 timeframe). However the safety of our workers and neighbors is our top priority during construction and operation of the system. The designers for the new Northwater pipeline (HDR-Dewberry) are developing mitigation strategies for working around the active conduit 22 pipeline during construction. This may include modifications in equipment staging around the conduit 22 pipeline and limiting and/or reinforcing crossings for equipment travel over and around the high pressure line.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title="Will Denver Water be doing any work at the Van Bibber pressure reduction facility? "]Yes, there will be a new valve vault constructed at Van Bibber as part of the new Northwater pipeline installation. In addition to the Van Bibber work, and as mentioned above, there will be future work required along the conduit 22 route when we are ready to abandon it and after the new Northwater pipeline is in service. We are committed to keeping you informed as we get closer to this work and move through the various phases so that you can prepare for any traffic or other construction impacts occurring during these periods.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title="What is the depth of the tunnel under Applewood Shopping Center?"]The depth from the ground surface to the top of the new Northwater pipeline is approximately 20-25 feet deep. This may vary depending on changes in the ground surface, but it is generally around 20-25 feet deep.[/vc_toggle][vc_toggle title="What are the plans for the solids line (the third, smaller pipeline that carries waste from the treatment process at Moffat back to the Ralston site for disposal)?"]The solids line will be decommissioned as well and abandoned in place. There may be some areas where it will be filled (i.e. – railroad and highway crossings – the same will apply for conduit 22).[/vc_toggle][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width="1/2"][vc_column_text]
